Horus Heresy: Leviathan Siege Dreadnought Unboxing

Was in Nottingham this Saturday for a close friends birthday. So thought would pop into the new Element Games shop to pick up the new Leviathan that was released today.

Nice artwork on the box featuring the Sons of Horus patterned Leviathan.
Inside the box you have 4 sprues, 3 of the sprues are for the main body of the dreadnought.
The final sprue are the Siege Claws and Drill weapons.
There are 3 differing groin guards, and 3 front carapace options. Only 1 head type, but two differinbg back plate pieces.

You also get some extra shoulder mounts for adding some extra heft to the already large shoulder sections.

The weapon is the sprue that will be swapped out in the next box release for the ranged weapon variant. I would have preferred to have had both variants in the box, so loadouts could be set or fully magentized.

Tegs as with the contempor dreadnoght are all ball and socket joints so will allowa full range of posing. Hope to get some build time over the weekemd. Not sure on my loadout will decide when get to that part in my build.

Anyone else picked up one?

Aeronautica Imperialis Wrath of Angels Unboxing

Wrath of Angels was released the back end of the summer and to be honest even though I love the system I completely missed this release. This is now the third box set release for Aeronautica Imperialis and two much waited races have finally entered the skies. Space Marines and Asuryani ( Eldar). I am a fan of the secondary game releases as everything needed for the game is released that weekend.

So what do you get for your money with the release of this box?

Models:

3 Asuryani Nightwings with choice of load-outs

3 Asuryani Phoenix Bombers with choice of load-outs

3 Adeptus Astartes Xiphon Interceptors

2 Adeptus Astartes Storm Eagles

1 Rulebook

2 Quick Reference Sheets

1 Double sided area of engagement (Poster quality map)

Complete set of tokens

8 six sided dice

Transfer sheet for Adeptus Astartes and Asuryani

3 Additional starter scenarios

The models are with the rest of the range are highly detailed and easy to assemble, with most aircraft giving you options on their load-outs. There will be another post on the models once I get round to assembly and painting.

The rulebook contains all the rules you need to learn to play the game so this is a perfect entry point into Aeronautica Imperialis. There also campaign missions and squadron lists for both forces. Sadly this release unlike the other 2 box sets did not come with a hardback book and I feel that release is worse for it. The Adeptus Astartes list has rules for all the releases apart from the iconic Thunderhawk Gunship that has been out of stock since the release weekend. So I am hoping that the rules are in the box set.

The map is made from the poster material but good news there is a hard wearing cardboard variant available. Supporting the release are the usual dice sets and card packs. The dice packs are still available but the card sets have now sold out. So looks like hunting around some local stores to see if they still have stock or braving the auction sites to complete my collection.

All in all this is another solid release and its great to see Games Workshop continue to support this system. November did see a nice update with Necrons on the horizon it is yet to be seen if this going to be another box set or supported through Forge World. Personally I am hoping for another box set as I think these are great little entry points into the hobby.

But I will leave you with some sneak peeks of the upcoming Necrons

Adeptus Titanicus Acastus Knight Unboxing and Review

Adeptus Titanicus Acastus Knight Unboxing and Review

Carrying on with my Titanicus focus the new Acastus Knight box and cards arrived with me this week.

The box contains 2 Acastus Knights, bases, instructions, and transfers.

Above you can see shots of both the front and rear of the frames. There are 2 frames in the box and each frame contains all the parts to build 1 knight. The frame is chock full of parts and it looks like that it is going to be a fun kit to assemble. On the sprue you get 1 head type and no armour variations. You can choose to have the either the Ironstorm Missile Pod or Karacnos Mortar Battery for the secondary weapon. You can also upgrade the twin autocannons to twin lascannons and these are on the sprue. There is only one main weapon which is the Twin Magna Lascannon.  Looks like we will either have to wait for a Forge World resin upgrade for Twin Conversion Beam Cannon or maybe it might on the plastic Knight upgrade sprue that we are all eagerly awaiting.

The decal sheet is the same as the one found in the Cerastus Knights box set which is a shame as would be nice to have some more options for the Knight Households, especially with the Doom of Molech release.

All in all a great looking kit and really looking forward to putting the pair together and then see how they play on the table. I think at £30 they are a little pricey would have preferred £25 but then who wouldn't.

Up next are the Acastus Knight Cards.

Looking at the cards will start with the Scale these are Scale 5 (Grandis) and cost 80 points, you can add up to another 3 knights at 70 points a piece.
Adding in the Twin Linked Magna Lascannons and upgrading the autocannons to lascannons adds another 30 points to the knight. So fielding a full unit of 4 knights would cost 410 points.

One of the nice rules added to the Acastus is that if you issue First Fire or Split Fire then you gets bonues to your BS taking it from 4+ to 3+ . With 16 strength 8 shots from paired weapons means that they can really cause devastation on the battlefield. The Ironstorm Missile pod comes in at 6 strength 4 shots at max range of 36 inches and has the traits of Barrage and paired.

The cards are the in the same format as the previous ones and come with 4 in a box.  So with a couple of boxes of these Knight and the cards you have a really strong Knight Unit on the table.

In my view these are a great addition to the Knights currently available and will give some nice options for the controlling player, I can see them being used as an area denial unit that will cause the opposing player to carefully think about sending their Knights or Titans to go toe to toe with them.

Really looking forward to getting these assembled and on the table and see how they stack up against the smaller class Titans.

Have you picked up yours?

D&D: Battle Systems Fantasy Dungeon Unboxing

D&D: Battle Systems Fantasy Dungeon Unboxing

Last month I spent a lot of time hunting for some flexible, affordable, durable and most importantly good looking terrain to make dungeons and building interiors. I looked at a lot of the resin companies out there, and there some great companies making some great terrain, but it missed out on the affordable selection choice, plus I would have to paint it. A friend of mine mentioned that he had backed Battle Systems Kickstarter a while back and was really happy with what he got.  So did some research watched some videos and decided to pick up the Fantasy Dungeon Set

Check after the break for a full unboxing and initial thoughts.

UNBOXING: First Strike Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set

UNBOXING: First Strike Warhammer 40,000 Starter Set

There has been a lot of unboxing posts on the web of the new Dark Imperium box set. This weekend I got my latest hobby fix from Element Games and it was the First Strike Warhammer 40,000 starter set.
This box set is about the size of a house brick and weighs about the same, so what have GW managed to cramp into the seemly small box?

Check after the break for the unboxing
