Watch Captain Halgrim

Been a dreary and foggy week up here in Nottingham, but at the end of the week I managed to get some Skeletons undercoated. For my test scheme I am using Watch Captain Halgrim from the Cursed City game.

Back in the days before Age of Sigmar I owned a Empire Army and the focal state was Ostermark, which wore Purple and Yellow uniforms. So this is my nod to my gaming history.

The yellow has been laid down and next up will be the purple. I am planning of bringing the whole down a few tones using oils for the first time. Aiming to have this finished for next week.

Soulblight Gravelords Draft List Making

I received the SoulBlight Gravelords Battletome for Christmas and I have spent the last 2 days reading over the background and the unit information. As I mentioned in my last post I am looking to use the Cursed City box set as the core building blocks for my army.

Cursed City comes with a high number of characters based around Radukar the Wolf. In the current Battletome you would normally have to take all the models as a single choice for 755 Points, however the latest Errata allows you to purchase them as individual models.

So with the models I currently own this is my first list:

Radukar the Wolf: 150 points

Gorslav the Gravekeeper: 75 points

Torgillius the Chamberlain: 115 points

Watch Captain Halgrim: 80 points

Kosagri Nightguard: 95 points

Vargskyr: 115 points

Vyrkos Blood-Born: 125 points

10 Deathrattle Skeletons: 85 points

10 Deadwalker Zombies: 115 points (The minimum size for this unit it 20 but 10 all I got)

Total Points: 955 points

This list is far from being balanced and needs a lot more core troops, I think the Start Collecting box looks the best value for getting some bulk core forces into my army 20 Grave Guard and 5 Black Knights and Mounted Wight Lord.

Over the next couple of days I will have a good read through the book and start breaking down how I want my army to look. I have always been a big fans of lots of Skeletons. So going to see what will be the best character combination to buff and lead the hordes of Skeletons. I do also have some conversion ideas in mind with some of the new Stormcast dragons riders.

So hopefully the rain will hold off tomorrow and I can get some undercoat on my models and start painting the models I have and completing some of the Bingo scoreboard.

Age of Sigmar Chainrasp Horde WIP

Age of Sigmar Chainrasp Horde WIP

Chainrasps progress coming along well this week, the red and blue cloths have been paid down, now time for the detailed work of the metal and the skin.

Hard pushing this week to get them complete, before I allow myself to open the Adeptus Titanicus box set.

Age of Sigmar Knight of Shrouds WIP

Lunchtime today started work on my Night Shroud. Using the new Nighthaunt Bloom as the base I slowly added white scar air to lighten it through to pure white. Then to soften the blend watered down Coelia Greenshade. Tomorrow plan to work on the steeds covering. I am thinking of working from light to dark so a nice contrast

Age of Sigmar A Lord Executioner WIP

I had completed a couple of the other characters in the box set and I had started work on the Chainrasp Horde but I wasn't happy with how the red cloth was coming out. So thought back to the drawing board and try out the new paints. Not 100% on the light green flame might change that up a bit and go with a smoky red. Aiming to have this finished over the weekend.

Age of Sigmar: Spirit Torment WIP

Age of Sigmar: Spirit Torment WIP

Quick work in progress shot from todays lunch break. Started work on the Spirit Torment from the Soul Wars box, going with a nice deep red for the cloths rather than the GW ghostly scheme. Hope to have this finished by the end of the week.

Anyone else started their Soul War box yet?

Age of Sigmar Umbral Spellportal WIP

Age of Sigmar Umbral Spellportal WIP

With the release of Age of Sigmar 2nd Edition GW have also brought out a box of Malign Spells. In days of old magic was a big deal in Warhammer and the last edition did not really have much in the way of magic.
This edition sees Malign Sorcery entering the world. I am not gonna dwell to much on it in this post, prepping a post all about the new spells and how they will work in game.

Check after the break for more work in progress pics.

Age of Sigmar Nighthaunts

With our open day being on Saturday I did not have time to pick up my copy of Soul War so will need to wait till Monday. Gives me time to clear the desk ready for assembly and painting lines.

I am really looking forward to getting my hands on the NightHaunt models the undead has always been one of my favourite fantasy army in all editions. Cannot wait to read their background and start painting.

If this weeks releases was not enough GW have dropped another huge range of models, the wallet is gonna take a hit over the next couple of months. Check out the images after the break.

Age of Sigmar Soul Wars

So less than 4 days for the release of the second edition of Age of Sigmar, I missed a lot of the hype and White Dwarf being released the Saturday after I left for holidays. I really enjoyed the last edition of AoS but did not get nearly enough games.  With the new edition I am really looking forward to the Night Haunt figures as they are simply stunning some of the nicest models that I think GW have done, matching in so nicely with Nagash and his cohorts. they are going to be me like I guess with many others my go to army.

Anyone else really excited about the new edition?

Morathi wip on the wings

So now onto the large beauty model. To say I am intimidated by the model is an understatement. I have watched the GW painting video a couple of times. So with a deep breath I started on the largest and most eye catching area the wings.

After base coating with Stormvermin Fur, then mixed 1 part of Khorne red with 4-5 parts Lhamia medium, covered the wings then wiped off using the finger. What Chris does not mention in the video that this part is messy. So first stage done and the model does not feel so intimidating.

Hope you have a good Easter weekend and get lots of hobby time and eating of eggs.

Morathi:- First Gallery Pics

Morathi:- First Gallery Pics

This is the first completed model for a project that is going to see multiple uses. Will be used at some point for Age of Sigmar, but prime role for this figure is going to be as a ongoing Monster in D&D.
Really enjoyed painting this model, eyeing up the daemon version with trepidation.

I will be setting up the Battle Systems Dungeon later this week and trying to get some better shots.

After the break will be some WIP shots.

WIP: Knight Questor 1

WIP: Knight Questor 1

Last night I got some paint on the Questor Knights Cloak. This is acting as my test character before I tackle the Lord Aquilor.

The cloak is built up from Khorne Red, brought lighter by adding Tuskgor Fur between in each layer is a thinned glaze of Bloodletter red to help blend the colours and maintain the rich red. To get to the final level Fulgrim Pink was added to the mix.

The tabard started with Kantor Blue with a layer of Nuln Oil. Then again with Kantor Blue and then brought up with Teclis Blue and finally Blue Horror. I am not to happy with how the blue has come out, but as it is the tabard between the legs not a lot is showing, but will have to work on the blending on the outside of the cloak.

Happy with the progress so far, but that deadline cloak is ticking

Comments and thoughts always welcome

Army Lists: Path To Glory

Army Lists: Path To Glory

Could not help but be inspired by this piece of art work and this definitely drove my purchasing choice for the core start to my Stormcast army.

Still being new to Age of Sigmar I am still getting to grips with the 3 playing options. Being a long time WFB player I am certainly used to points match games. Not sure I am keen on 'Hey bring some models and we will roll some dice' approach. So to try a new take on gaming I have chosen to run a small Paths to Glory campaign with a couple of friends as we are all new to AoS.

Champion: Lord Aquilor. This gives me 4 units to choose from

Hero: Knight Questor

Infantry: 3 Prosecutors

Infantry : 10 Liberators

Mounted: 3 Vanguard Palladors

I pretty much picked the units I purchased this month and 10 Liberators from the starter set and the Knight Questor from the Talisman box set. Hopefully will get my first game next week, and will attempt my first Battle Report.

Any one else used Paths to Glory as their way to play? If so pop a comment or a link.
