Heresy Thursday: WOW its a big drop from GW this week

This week's Heresy Thursday gives us not 1 but 2 upcoming releases.

The first being a stunning Praetor for the Emperor's Children

The second being an expansion book for Aeronautica Imperialis bringing rules for dogfights and bombing runs in the Heresy era.

I love the unhelmeted head of this model and it showing where the Emperor's Children have started to experiment with sonic weapons.
The cloak is amazing and I could see this working on other models as I would have thought that the eagle will be a separate piece.

So it is just the teasing drop of images from the Community release today, be nice to see some of the lists available and if we are going to receive any Legion specific rules.

This is going to give me the motivation to paint up the models from the last starter set released.

Aeronautica Imperialis Wrath of Angels Unboxing

Wrath of Angels was released the back end of the summer and to be honest even though I love the system I completely missed this release. This is now the third box set release for Aeronautica Imperialis and two much waited races have finally entered the skies. Space Marines and Asuryani ( Eldar). I am a fan of the secondary game releases as everything needed for the game is released that weekend.

So what do you get for your money with the release of this box?

Models:

3 Asuryani Nightwings with choice of load-outs

3 Asuryani Phoenix Bombers with choice of load-outs

3 Adeptus Astartes Xiphon Interceptors

2 Adeptus Astartes Storm Eagles

1 Rulebook

2 Quick Reference Sheets

1 Double sided area of engagement (Poster quality map)

Complete set of tokens

8 six sided dice

Transfer sheet for Adeptus Astartes and Asuryani

3 Additional starter scenarios

The models are with the rest of the range are highly detailed and easy to assemble, with most aircraft giving you options on their load-outs. There will be another post on the models once I get round to assembly and painting.

The rulebook contains all the rules you need to learn to play the game so this is a perfect entry point into Aeronautica Imperialis. There also campaign missions and squadron lists for both forces. Sadly this release unlike the other 2 box sets did not come with a hardback book and I feel that release is worse for it. The Adeptus Astartes list has rules for all the releases apart from the iconic Thunderhawk Gunship that has been out of stock since the release weekend. So I am hoping that the rules are in the box set.

The map is made from the poster material but good news there is a hard wearing cardboard variant available. Supporting the release are the usual dice sets and card packs. The dice packs are still available but the card sets have now sold out. So looks like hunting around some local stores to see if they still have stock or braving the auction sites to complete my collection.

All in all this is another solid release and its great to see Games Workshop continue to support this system. November did see a nice update with Necrons on the horizon it is yet to be seen if this going to be another box set or supported through Forge World. Personally I am hoping for another box set as I think these are great little entry points into the hobby.

But I will leave you with some sneak peeks of the upcoming Necrons

Some Thoughts On Isolation, Quarantine and HobbyTime

Quarantine and Isolation Thoughts and a new project Hobby From Home

Hi guys!

It’s been a while since I contributed to Dibdab’s Hobby Blog, and finding myself sitting at home with not a lot else to do in these strange times we find ourselves in, I thought it best to start updating again.

But first a few thoughts on Isolation HobbyTime. Here in the UK we are under a government induced lockdown, where we are prohibited from leaving the house other than for essential food shopping, medical care or to travel to work for those unable to work from home. As the boss has graciously given us 2 weeks paid holiday to tie the business over and ensure we are still paid, and only having a few hours a week where I have to check emails, I thought it the perfect time to find some time for myself and my hobby.

And thus I find myself in a new push on getting through my various projects (some work related, some personal) that have been kicking around the old hobby area for a while. Prior to this, I’d been finding every excuse under the sun to not put paint to plastic or just play a game, and since playing is now a no no (social distancing 101) painting it is :)

This also serves to give me the kick up the backside I need (how else am I going to occupy myself other than staring at the 4 walls?!) to actually finish some outstanding projects and armies.

So here we are, my to do list over the next 14days which will serve me well in clearing some space, ticking off some quite outstanding pieces and also occupying my thoughts:

  • Warhammer 40k Tau (also my chance to actually use the contrast paints I bought on release)
  • USMC Gulf War Team Yankee force
  • Outstanding Brit Para Company for Flames of War
  • Aeronautica Imperial fighter wing for AI
  • Start my LW Soviet Tank Army for FOW
  • Adeptus Titanicus Titans (all built for over 2yrs but languishing alone in the dark)
  • Black Powder British Napoleonic's which have also lain unloved in my drawers
  • British Fleet for Black Seas

I don’t think it an ambitious list, but actually sitting down and going at it has been the issue to date. So my pledge for Hobby From Home is to get down on it, post my progress and see what I can produce. I will be posting on here WIP updates and also on my Instagram too (@dark_vapian)

What projects will you be looking at doing? Also share what your social media accounts are at so I can take some inspiration as I’m completing my list!

Aeronaitica Imperialis Wings of Vengeance Preview

Well we had been waiting on this announcement for a while now ever since we saw some model shots earlier this year. To be honest I am surprised that this was not released later on this year, with the recent releases of Warcry and re-release of Kill Team, I thought that they might have given a bigger window to allow these games to bed in a little.

Going up on pre-order this weekend is the main box game Wings of Vengeance and a whole host of supporting products.

Check after the break for more images and my initial thoughts.
